It's not only a luxury hotel but above all a place with a soul and a fascinating history dating back to the 18th century.
Where to go near Wrocław? Pakoszów Palace welcomes you with its history and a touch of modernity
Pakoszów Palace perfectly shows that monuments don’t have to be just lifeless witnesses of history – they can be vibrant and offer the highest comfort without losing their spirit. The history of this place goes back to 1725, when it was built as a summer residence for Johann Martin Gottfried – an influential linen merchant and mayor of Jelenia Góra. The building was erected in the Baroque style, featuring a characteristic mansard roof and symmetrical facade.
In the second half of the 18th century, the palace gained new significance – it became the seat of a linen bleaching manufactory. Thanks to a special privilege granted by the King of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, water from the nearby Kamienna stream was used for bleaching fabrics, making this place an important textile production center in the region. The farm buildings around the palace, preserved to this day, witnessed this industrial activity. It is precisely this connection with the linen industry that distinguishes Pakoszów Palace among other residences in Lower Silesia.
The historic interiors hide many unique elements – foremost among them is a collection of original tiles from Dutch Delft, which adorn the fireplaces and stoves in the Tile Room. Hand-painted genre scenes, floral and marine motifs are true masterpieces of ceramic art. These decorations not only give the interiors a palace ambiance but are also extremely valuable from a European cultural heritage perspective.
Pakoszów Palace survived the turbulent times of Silesia – wars, border changes, property seizures – yet for many years it fell into neglect. Only in the 21st century did its renaissance begin. In 2005, the estate was purchased by a German family – descendants of the former owners. Together with a Polish-German team, they launched an ambitious rebuilding project. The goal was not only to restore the former splendor of the residence but also to breathe new life into it. And they succeeded.
In 2012, Pakoszów Palace reopened – now as a five-star boutique hotel combining history with modern luxury. The historic interiors were meticulously restored, and next to the palace was built a modern hotel wing – minimalist, bright, with panoramic windows and views of the Karkonosze Mountains. This project has received recognition not only from guests but also from architects – it was even honored in contemporary architecture competitions for successfully blending old with new.
Today, at Pakoszów Palace, you can walk on original 18th-century parquet floors, enjoy coffee in the library with frescos, and then relax in a modern pool with mountain views. This is a space where history is not just a backdrop – it accompanies every step and creates a unique atmosphere.
